Women who read food labels, weigh less

Read labels on foods prevents obesity in the first place this applies to women. To such conclusion the group of scientists from the University of Santiago de Compostela in Spain. According to their calculations, ladies, studying the composition of food products, weigh approximately 4 pounds less, their not interested in friends.

The study in which data were collected statistics from the American National health survey using interviews, showed interesting results. On the topic of healthy eating and conditions of purchases were interviewed over 25,5 thousand people. They were asked to read whether respondents information about the nutritional value of foods on the labels, and if so, how often. In the result, it was found that the body mass index of customers, in detail, read the label, was 1.49 points lower than consumers who are not interested in these things.

Researchers found that among consumers who read and do not read the labels, there are significant differences. For example, smokers are paying less attention to information about the nutritional value of the product. The researchers explained that these people lifestyle itself includes less healthy habits, so they are not too concerned about the composition of food consumed. 58% of the male population frequently or always exposed to the information on food labels. In the female population of respondents, the figure rises to 74%. In addition, read the information on the nutritional characteristics of the product, those who live in the city (49% of respondents), and has an average (40%) or higher (17%) education. Scientists estimate that the highest level of obesity has a black population of non-Latin origin (49,5%), followed by Mexican Americans (40.4 percent), Latino (39,1%) and non-Latin whites (34.3 per cent).
