European explorers came to the conclusion: women are more likely than men to encounter side effects from medication. Especially clearly side effects manifest themselves during menopause.
For the study, researchers took six medications, common in modern medicine: diclofenac, chlorpromazine, acetaminophen, verapamil, omeprazole and caffeine. Each substance was added to the culture of liver cells obtained from men or women. Female group of cells, scientists were divided into postmenopausal and control.
Liver cells men were less exposed to the damaging effects of drugs. Stronger than all the drugs I reacted the liver cells women in postmenopause. Scientists suggest that the results obtained will be useful for clinical pharmacologists to calculate individual dosages and special treatment regimens, created individually for each patient.
