The wave of suicides in China remains unabated pace

In a period when China was experiencing the peak of prosperity, every year approximately two million Chinese are trying to commit suicide, which is 3.6 percent of the total number of deaths per year according to official statistics.

In recent years a number of attempts to get even with life among the Chinese has increased by 60 percent, to the conclusion of the Chinese Center for control and prevention of diseases.

Of the two million people 287 000 people die after a successful attempt, which is equal to 3.6 percent of deaths in the country.

75 percent of suicides occur in rural areas, women among them, 25 percent more than men, which radically contradicts observed in developed countries, trends, where mortality from suicide in men is three times more than women.

Suicide was the fifth leading cause of death and the leading cause of death among the Chinese from 15 to 34 years. The study was conducted in the framework of the world suicide Prevention Day.
