The use of stem cells will help in loss of vision

Macular degeneration is damage to the Central zone of the retina. Mostly the disease is diagnosed among the elderly over 65 years. Sooner or later related macular degeneration leads to loss of vision. An effective method of treatment of a pathology does not exist yet.

On the eve of specialists from the Medical Center conducted an experiment on laboratory mice: epithelial cells turned back into stem cells, they were created neural progenitor cells. The material obtained was Villalta in rodent eyes with macular degeneration.

Injection, done on time, kept the vision to mice for 130 days, which equates to 16 years of life. Scientists have high hopes for the new method and hope for successful application of discoveries in the near future. About the first trials on human volunteers have not yet been reported.
