Regular watching of television programs can significantly harm the self-esteem of your child, which in turn often becomes a cause of the deplorable consequences - are convinced scientists at the University of Michigan (USA). Researchers had found a very strong correlation between pre-screen TV hours and the risk of development of children in the age group of 14 years inferiority complex.
"The child's brain simply open to the perception of the world. In this period of life from 60% to 80% of the knowledge we gain about our environment, and very important, how is the communication of our children with the existing society. When viewing TV programs and the absence of other means of communication, your child, one way or another, begins to associate oneself with the characters in many television shows, series and feature films. Considering the fact that the world beyond the television screen and the real world vary significantly, the child begins to feel inferior. On this background may develop chronic depression and inferiority complex" - says Professor of communication studies University of Michigan (USA) Kristen Harison (Kristen Harrison).
Quite interestingly, the risk of prolonged depression and inferiority complex is based not only on the amount of hours spent watching television, but also on such factors as skin color. Children of African descent have a 2-3 times greater risk of getting this disorder than children with white skin color. Researchers this circumstance can be explained by two facts. The first fact - the study lasted for six months and conducted with the participation of 400 children with different skin colours, it was found that children with black skin in front of the TV spend an average of 10 hours more than the children with white skin color. The second fact is that children with white skin in later life have more opportunities to realize themselves, and get some things that they wanted to have as a kid.
Less risk of developing various kinds of mental and neurological disorders are also observed in girls. As scientists say - such as watching television the child cannot do much harm. In some situations, this view is just incredibly useful. However, young body should develop and be balanced, and electronic means of communication with the outside world must be compiled with quite ordinary human communication, both with parents and with peers.
