The new drug against autism successfully tested on mice

A group of scientists, which includes representatives of the scientific community from France and the United States, conducts research with the aim of creating a new drug against autism. Recently they had submitted the first progress report, reports RG.ru.

As you know, autism is a disease of the nervous system that occurs due to disturbances in the brain's development. Its symptoms are the reluctance of communication, isolation, narrow interests and repetitive actions.

In their study, the researchers focused on a gene EIF4E, which is directly connected with this disorder. The analysis of the above gene has shown that the mutation is due to increased protein synthesis. According to scientists, excessive gene expression, which leads to excessive protein synthesis, causes neurological disorders, including syndrome, Martin - bell.

Experiments on mice showed that those individuals in the body which protein EIF4E gene was synthesized in excess, had all the signs of autism: not been in contact with relatives and repeated monotonous movements.

Genetics has created a drug called 4EGI-1, which managed to reduce the amount of protein synthesized gene ЕIF4E and symptoms of autism in mice was weaker. The number of repeated movements significantly decreased, and they became more sociable relations with colleagues.

In April 2012, scientists had created another drug against autism, which is also tested on mice. In the basis of medicine laid substance that affects glutamate is the main neurotransmitter of the brain.

The experiment showed that entered into mice the drug almost immediately changed behaviour in rodents.
