Study: longevity is hereditary

Life expectancy is partly in the genes, say scientists from the University of Exeter (UK). They proved that longevity is usually passed from parents to children. Other assumptions and results of the study tells the Journal of the American College of Cardiology.

The researchers cite statistics. If the parents live more than 70 years, the child has every chance, too, to live up to this age. According to the data obtained, the chance at longevity with a good heredity increased by almost half. Even centenarians 7% less likely to suffer from cancer and 20% - diseases of the cardiovascular system.

The information collected, experts believe, will help in the further development of programs to improve the health of the population. Competent application of knowledge in the field of genetics and longevity – is a guarantee of correct direction of development of the health system.
