Scientists: women's drug addiction starts with pain medication

Researchers from McMaster University in the framework of recent studies came to the conclusion: pain medication prescribed by the doctor, often cause women drug addiction. In total the study involved more than 500 volunteers taking painkillers for medical reasons.

The problem with this group of drugs is quite acute. According to statistics, since the 90-ies the number of patients with drug addiction from painkillers has increased by a third. The indications for prescribing are usually associated with chronic pain. It is not always possible to cope with it using anti-inflammatory drugs and then the doctors can resort to the use of narcotic analgesics.

In another study, scientists have proved that regular intake of painkillers is associated with a high risk of depression. And the longer people took the painkillers, the higher the observed risk of mental illness.
