Scientists: men live less than women because of the Y chromosome

Scientists have found: the average life expectancy of men less than women because of the peculiarities of the genetic apparatus. All the matter in the Y-chromosome and an increased risk of death from cancer, writes The Times of India.

Over the years in the human genome accumulates mutations that can lead to cancer, diabetes and other diseases. In addition, genetic mutations reduce the ability of the birth of a completely healthy child. Experts from Uspenskoe University demonstrated that a significant proportion of mutations associated with loss of the Y chromosome in white blood cells.

Data were installed in the study involving 1600 elderly. The analysis of their life and the study of the genome revealed that the loss of the Y chromosome in some cells reduces life expectancy and increases the number of deaths among men in old age. This explains the phenomenon.
