Scientists have found the oldest disease of mankind

Scientists of Houston established the oldest disease of mankind. It was leprosy, Phoenician disease) caused by Mycobacterium leprae. The disease affects the skin, peripheral nervous system, visual organ, hands and feet.

The leprosy bacterium exists in the usual for scientists as more than 10 million years. The disease was recorded at the first migration of humans from Africa to other continents.

Now, leprosy treatment is carried out on the basis of special institutions, with the participation of many experts: neurologist, ophthalmologist, orthopedist. The main treatment is the prescription of antibiotics: Dapsone, rifampicin, clofazimine.
