American scientists have found a gene responsible for the aging process and set of extra pounds. The gene was named FAT10, reported in the paper edition of the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
Gene expression was previously unknown to scientists and represented one big puzzle. The study on laboratory mice has allowed us to understand the mechanisms of functioning of the gene and its influence on the human organism as a whole.
The experiment showed that the inclusion of the gene increased the lifespan of rodents in average by 20%. In addition, the active form of the gene was involved in the process of burning fat, which improved the health outcomes of laboratory animals.
