Scientists have established a link between depression and infection by bacteria

A recent study found that regular use of antidepressants increases the risk of illness caused by the bacteria Clostridium. This type of bacteria widely distributed, and every year they die about 7000 people. How did you manage to install scientists, some medications increase the risk of Contracting this type of bacteria.

The members of the research work were people who were diagnosed with infection with Clostridium. They were divided into 2 groups: the first group consisted of people suffering from depression, and in the second group found a place people without such psychological disorders. The results of the experiment showed that depressed people by 36 percent were more prone to infection by Clostridium. In addition, the risk of Contracting this type of bacteria was increased by 54 per cent for single people, compared with those who have a family.

The next step of scientists began finding out which medications against depression become a cause of increased risk of infection. It turned out that these drugs, at least two: Remeron and Prozac. At the moment, the scientists could not establish the reasons for the increased risk of Clostridium and taking antidepressants. Therefore, they recommend to continue the course of treatment with antidepressants, as the experiment was set up only the relationship between bacteria and depression, rather than a direct effect of drugs against depression for infection with Clostridium.
