Scientists have discovered how intestinal microflora depends on walnuts

So, the researchers were invited to participate in the experiment, four dozen obese volunteers, whose age ranged from 30 to 65 years. They were offered one of three diets. In each of these saturated fats differed low content.

The first was a place the whole walnuts. In the 2nd diet, the latter were absent, but were represented equally polyunsaturated fatty acids and alpha-linolenic acid (ALA). In the 3rd nuts was also missing, but oleic acid was replaced with the same amount of linolenic what is contained in them. Each diet was characterized by the replacement of saturated fats with vegetable oils or walnuts. All the volunteers ate in accordance with the chosen diet for 6 weeks with a break.

In the end, researchers found that beneficial bacteria, for example, Butyricicoccus, Eubacteria eligens (affect blood pressure) and Roseburia (are a protective agent for the inner lining of the intestine) increased its population in those human organisms that followed the first diet (with walnuts). At the same time experts have noted a correlation between the changes of intestinal microflora and the risk of heart disease. The changes also affected the performance of low-density cholesterol and total cholesterol, and blood pressure (in the direction of its reduction). A similar effect in the other two diets was not observed.

Experts explained that for "delivery" in the human body of biologically active compounds, fiber and fatty acids responsible it is whole nuts. All of these elements are extremely important for the intestinal bacteria capable of generating compounds that are beneficial to the human body.
