Edition of The Times of India reports that the drug Topiramate, which is used to treat epilepsy and slimming identified properties to help fight against alcohol and cocaine dependence.
To prove their theory, the scientists from the University of Pennsylvania tested with the participation of 170 volunteers, patients with drug addiction and alcoholism. For 13 weeks, test subjects took Topiramate. In studies, people taking the drug from drug addiction and alcoholism are not got rid of, but more willingly continued participation in rehabilitation programs in specialized centers.
The greatest positive effect Topiramate provided to seriously ill people for many years took cocaine. It was observed stabilization and improvement in mood. For greater effect, the researchers suggested that doctors use of Topiramate in combination with therapy.
