Soon insulin will be available in tablet form, experts say. Then people with diabetes will no longer need to take daily injections of drugs, and the drug will no longer be associated with pain and puncture marks.
The main problem faced by scientists was the cleavage of insulin by gastric juice. However, the obstacle was overcome by protecting the insulin from the acidic environment before entering the medication directly into the bloodstream.
Now tablets with insulin are tested to determine their efficacy and safety. If successful, the medicine will have a safe method of administration, which will be able to handle even a child. Scientists do not exclude the possibility of delivery of insulin through individual patches with microscopic needles.
