Scientists: diabetes reduces the amount of human brain

Scientists have discovered the root cause of memory loss and diabetes. It turns out that in this disease there may be a large reduction in brain volume. Particularly the pathology develops in aged 40-64 years.

The data were confirmed in the study of 1,4 thousands of patients with diabetes. The average age of the patients was 80 years old. Brain scans confirmed a decrease on average by 2.9%.

More serious were hippocamp. Its dimensions have on average decreased by 4%. This structure is responsible for the processes associated with memorizing information. The decrease in the hippocampus is associated with memory loss, short term and long term.
