Scientists: caffeine does not affect the intelligence of the unborn child

Researchers from the National Children's Hospital Columbus came to the conclusion: consumption of caffeine by the mother during pregnancy does not affect the level of intelligence of the unborn child. Note, other studies have found an indirect correlation between caffeine and mental abilities of children, says NDTV.

In total in research took part 2197 pregnant women. The collection of material occurred in the years 1959-1974, when people consumed more coffee and less worried about the dangers of drink. Scientists have detected the level of the main coffee derived blood – paraxanthine. The level of this substance, the researchers correlated with intellectual abilities of children aged 4 and 7 years.

The study showed that regular consumption of caffeine during pregnancy does not affect the level of intelligence of children. Modern doctors recommend that pregnant women limit the amount of coffee to 1-2 cups per day.
