High risk of cardiovascular disease remains within 15 years after Smoking cessation. This statement was made by scientists from the U.S. in the analysis of the health status of 2556 people. At the start of the study 629 of them smoked, 1300 refused from tobacco more than 15 years ago.
The observation lasted 13 years. During this period of time, 21% of the volunteers appeared heart problems, and the risk was the same for people who never smoked and those who stopped Smoking. In heavy smokers who quit habits the risk was significantly higher, at 30%.
Only 15 years after giving up cigarettes the likelihood of strokes, strokes and heart attacks is reduced. Doctors recommend to do away with a bad habit as soon as possible to live a long and healthy life.
