Mathematics activates areas of the brain responsible for pain

Until recently, scientists believed that mathematics has a positive influence on people. It allows the structure to approach the tasks, perform complex calculations, which develop their memory. Recently, however, scientists from the University of Chicago concluded that mathematical tasks are able to activate specific areas of the brain responsible for pain.

The data were confirmed in the study. Subjects were asked to perform certain exercises in mathematics, at the same time was measured activity of the cerebral cortex. It turns out that a lot of stress during job execution was accompanied by neuronal activation of pain sensitivity.

Scientists believe that this is caused by the constant expectation of success during problem solving. The reaction was similar to the reaction in times of stress or separation.
