Scientists of the National cancer Institute, Bethesda has created a new technology for predicting cancer. Scientific workers worked hard and thanks derived their statistical formula, you can now determine whether there is a risk of malignant tumors in the breast in women during 10 and 20 years. About the new achievement of the researchers was published in the source PLoS Medicine. Also by using this method it became possible to determine the likelihood of developing malignant tumors of the ovaries and internal mucous membrane of the uterus.
In testing the new technology was attended by approximately 122 thousand women. For the formula were necessary data about age, presence of children, body mass index (BMI, nutrition, and about the use of hormonal drugs and ways of protection from unwanted pregnancy. The conclusions were as follows: risk of breast cancer in women over 50 is equal to 1.57-21.78 % for a period of 10 years and 3.64-35.11% for a period of 20 years.
The doctors said that on the basis of obtained results with accuracy can determine the occurrence of malignant tumors, especially breast cancer in women.
As noted by the head of the research group R. Pfeiffer, these formulas will bring considerable benefits to physicians during serious decisions. Among other things, this method of calculation can be widely used in the future.
It is worth noting that earlier mentioned that the researchers of the Singapore Institute of genome found genes which are potential victims of drug against malignant tumors of the breast.
