According to The Hindustan Times, as a result of new research experts of the Erasmus University was revealed the tendency of older people with high content in the body of free thyroxine to the development of atherosclerosis and the risk of premature death.
The study involved 9420 patients, whose average age was 65 years. During observations, scientists have estimated the amount of thyroid stimulating hormone and free thyroxine and their influence on the development of atherosclerosis, coronary heart disease, and other diseases of the circulatory system.
During the experiment it was discovered that the subjects, in the body which contained an increased amount of free thyroxin in 2 times more often observed increased calcification of the coronary arteries, which is a direct indication of atherosclerosis. In addition, these patients 87% increased risk of complications in atherosclerosis, in 2 times increased risk of death.
