Researchers from South China University of technology studied the effect of incense sticks in Chinese hamsters, and bacteria of the genus Salmonella. It turned out the smoke from the sticks is more harmful than cigarette smoke. About it reports The Daily Mail.
In the study, researchers used two types of sticks: from an eagle and sandalwood. The composition analysis showed that smoke contained 64 chemical compounds. Some of them were animals caused irritation of the mucous membranes and skin, others were harmless. The individual components had a high carcinogenic potential.
Scientists compare the smoke from the incense with cigarette smoke. It is better not to be near the source of the scent, systematic inhalation of smoke leads to the development of allergic respiratory diseases, asthma and even cancer.
