In medical practice for the treatment of gonorrhoea is applied two main drug: Ceftriaxone and azithromycin. They have a pronounced antibacterial effect. However, in recent years the effectiveness of these antibiotics decreased. The rate of azithromycin resistance increased 4 times (from 0.6% to 2.5%), Ceftriaxone – two times (from 0.4% to 0.8%). Antibiotic resistance means a higher chance of chronic infection, which is a fully cured is almost impossible.
