Freshwater zebrafish help in the treatment of diseases of the respiratory system

Specialists from the Institute of molecular and cell biology have studied the genes of fish and found to have this type freshwater interesting feature. Under certain conditions, fish can be used to restore cilia of the respiratory tract.

Ciliated epithelium covers a large part of the human respiratory system and plays an important role in the breathing process. Cilia delay the dust and bacteria on the way to the alveoli of the lungs.

When genetic fails education for new cilia is disturbed, resulting in frequent infections, pneumonia and chronic bronchitis.
