Scientists from the U.S. found that sleepiness during the day, the representatives of different professions, even if they slept well at night, you may depend on what they consume food with a high fat content. However, the researchers found that carbohydrate-rich food increases the overall tone of the body and makes the person more alert and focused, which is so necessary in many professions.
To this opinion of the staff of the medical College of Pennsylvania state University in Hershey once conducted an experiment involving 30 healthy people, whose age ranged from 18 to 65 years. Within 5 days the volunteers slept in special rooms that were in the lab. Scientists have given them different food, which was different ratio of carbohydrates, fats and proteins. The degree of daytime sleepiness was measured using the multiple latency test sleep, which is widely used in sleep.
In the result, it was found that a high or low content of proteins in food does not affect daytime sleepiness. However, carbohydrates and fats have been able to influence its appearance: carbohydrates increased efficiency, and fats, on the contrary, increased the degree of sleepiness during the day. It should be noted that this phenomenon was observed in all participants, regardless of their gender, age, BMI, duration of night sleep, and calories.
