About 150 thousand people have attended on a regular basis medication to treat hypertension (antagonists of receptors of angiotensin, beta blockers, calcium channel blockers or thiazide diuretics). In the control group, the researchers used information on the health status 111 thousand people, the means to treat hypertension not taking.

It turned out that regular intake of the above described means is connected with a deterioration in mood, an increased risk of depression and bipolar disorder. While scientists can't say have such an effect do drugs, or diseases of the cardiovascular system affect mental status.
