Blocking androgens will make the treatment of breast cancer in women is more effective

A study conducted by American scientists from the University of Colorado, found that in some cases the occurrence of breast cancer in women, male sex hormones androgens contribute to its growth. This is due to the fact that on the surface of a cancerous tumor are androgen receptors. According to the report of scientists, published on the official website of the American Association for the study of cancer, 75 cases out of 100 tumors of the breast have androgen receptors. This gave an opportunity for professionals to assume that if they block using drugs, this technique may become a quite effective way of dealing with this type of cancer.

According to study leader Dr. Jennifer Reacher, she and her team are ready to start a new clinical trial of this method of therapy. Earlier studies had already shown that some cancer tumors of the mammary glands grow due to the influence of estrogen and progesterone (female sex hormones). Drugs that block these hormones already managed to demonstrate how very effective. Oncologists hope that if in addition to the mentioned female hormones will also be able to shut down and androgens, it will make the therapy more effective.

It should be noted that breast cancer ranks second among the most common cancers among women, second only to lung cancer. The main factors that trigger its development are: Smoking, obesity, diabetes, late delivery, hypertension, late menopause, and alcohol abuse.
