According to the head of the Ministry of health of the Russian Federation Veronika Skvortsova, today, the shortage of nurses in the country is 270 000 people, the shortage of doctors is 40000. This idea was announced by the Minister of health at the meeting of the RF Government. In the agenda of the meeting one of the questions concerned the subject of training in the health sector. Veronika Skvortsova also noted that over the last decade, the shortage of doctors has decreased, while the nursing shortage has increased. More than just a shortage of anesthesiologists, intensive care, neonatology, treatment specialists, pediatricians, patanemo, TB specialists.
Today in Russia for ten thousand people have 44,7 doctors and 90.8 nurses, while according to international norms, the need for doctors and nurses per 10,000 inhabitants is 45.2 and 117.5 respectively. Touching on this topic, Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said that on the first of January of the current year, the numerical ratio between doctors and nurses is one to two, i.e. one doctor has two nurses. That is why Medvedev instructed to bring the above-mentioned ratio to one doctor and three nurses. The Prime Minister also noted that in many developed countries this ratio comes to one to five, and unlike Russia, many works do not doctors, and nurses - paramedics.

According to Medvedev, in order to change the situation it is necessary to make contracts more effective to change the system of training specialists in the field of medicine, as well as to create a register of health professionals. It should also be noted that the shortage of health workers is felt in all regions of the country, in only one of the Tula region staffing of hospitals, doctors and nurses is almost forty percent.
