Anesthesia to four years affects a child's intelligence

Children under the age of four, underwent surgery under anesthesia, experience more learning difficulties than their peers. Scientists suggest that anesthesia affects the IQ and the child's memory.

For the study, researchers gathered a group of 106 children. 53 children have had surgery to four years, others such a fate had passed. Assessing the level of mental development, scientists noticed some lag children from the first group.

Anesthesia reduced the density of gray matter in the brain that affect mental abilities of children.
