American scientists: heartburn and asthma interconnected

Scientists from the American Institute for diseases of the esophagus and thoracic diseases that cause the development of asthma in adults may be heartburn. American experts conducted a survey of more than 400 patients with a diagnosis of "asthma", which have arisen at a Mature age. As it turned out, the presence of GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease) may be the cause of asthma. As you know, one of the main symptoms of GERD is heartburn, which occurs as a result of chronic reflux of acid stomach contents into the esophagus.

Some patients suffering from GERD and asthma at the same time, had surgery to improve the function of the lower esophageal sphincter. After surgery, the symptoms of both GERD and asthma disappeared. This has led the experts to believe that these two diseases are related.
