A new kind of broccoli reduces cholesterol blood

Scientists from the UK was ready to pour a new variety of broccoli-Beneforte. Now it can be bought in shops of the country. The main feature of the new variety - high content of glucoraphanin. This substance regulates cellular metabolism, writes Business Standard.

Excess sugar and fat leads to the formation of "harmful" cholesterol, are deposited on the walls of blood vessels. Glucoraphanin hinders the process by being converted into sulforaphane. Sulforaphane activates genes, protecting the body from the damaging effects of cholesterol.

The study, researchers from the University of reading and the Institute of food research in the UK suggested 130 volunteers each week to eat 400 grams of new varieties of broccoli. After 3 months the level of cholesterol in the group fell on average by 6%.
